With a subject like this it needs to be said right outta the box - I hate winter. Always have probably always will. I understand all the dynamics and have much experience with this time of year. Except for this last winter the previous 20 were spent in da boat area. Snow country! That's what I think of when winter is brought up. The snows I have seen I tell you.
When I think of winter I think of snow. I went and grabbed a few pictures all with snow in them of various degrees of depth. Some are pictures of pictures and others have an explanation attached.
Bottom line- if you live in a place where you can see snow but it's green where you are at it will be more chilly than more warm. Even though I spent last winter where there was not as much snow and it was much warmer it was still winter. This winter the plan if it is one is to spend it here.
The last thing is I have fudged and included a video at the end of one of the things that is enjoyable for me in the winter. The title of the post for this was " Six O Today Confused and Going Around In Circles".
Click on the pictures to take a real good look.
This was from my window with my camera but I was laying around and didn't take it. These light conditions are not that common. This is a major icon of Steamboat Springs. It is called Sleeping Giant. Head is on the left knees on the right.
Winter - when Florida monkeys slam into you at 6:30 in the morning. He was trying to make a turn here. There was ample time to avoid.
Pay attention kiddies - this is is how ya drive on da snow!

I share your dislike of winter! Lovely photos though
ReplyDeleteLove the cows on the green against the snowy mountains. Great photo. Enjoyed the video. I don't mind the snow, I do not like cold and gloom, though. Winter in the tropics sounds like a plan.
ReplyDeleteYes - a plan for whatever it's worth.
DeleteGreat shots. The lighting in theSleeping Giant one is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI stepped away for just a bit. The sun was there for only a few seconds. To the middle of that figure in 11 miles on the button.
DeleteSnow looks beautiful but the cold sure isn't nice.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a lot of snow!! Nice header too. :)
ReplyDeleteOther people have told me how much they like that as well. That is a road picture - a stopped road picture dbear.
DeleteYou drive that tractor very well...just like any farm boy in the deep snowy mountains of Colorado.
ReplyDeleteI don't miss winter...although the snow is rather critical to our survival in the summer. A tropical get away sounds good.
Let it snow while you enjoy the colors of the tropics!

I like to play in the snow, it is hard to remember it now,it was 102 yesterday.Hope you are away from the fires.
ReplyDeleteNo fires around here right now and there has been some moisture in the area the last couple days.
DeleteWell I love winter, great shots and that video cracked me up..:-))
ReplyDeleteWoW! These are awesome!! Love the cow picture and the sleeping giant ones...ooh gosh they're all great! Me, I love "cold"... I'll take winter over summer any day. I can dress/layer for cold, but hot ole summer daze..uck! Friday, car said it was 104/105. A bank near my house said 112. Anyway, these are really cool...pun intended. BTW, that train pic Teresa posted was wonderful. Where in the world did you find those 3 trains w/mountain??? very good...
ReplyDeleteNo doubt about it some like it some don't. I think it's fair to say it's easier living/surviving in a warm climate than a cold one and particularly if you are poor.
ReplyDeleteThe tractor thing comes from years of doing all kinds of things with motorized vehicles. Most of them not good although this was not really that hard on the tractor. I could have gone on and on and not tired of it. Fun stuff.
I think Ed would be able to do this pretty well to.
Just so you know the reference to "idiots out wandering around" comes from one of the two Wisconny guys and it stands for Iowa. They don't have enough to do up there except drink too much beer. I've never seen anyone who can hold a camera so still.
Thanks everyone!!
soo beautiful shots, am sure living is much more serioius stuff than viewing a pic, but i love snow 'n chill :)
ReplyDeleteAnd when you get out the house or the car or any building (in Steam Boat or Hayden) your nose immediately freezes shut it's so cold! I have photos of my Dad shoveling several feet of snow off the roof of his house.
