That's just what went on here probably for 10 miles maybe more. I know this road well but I had to drive too fast to get these.
The reason being I really don't have any excellent pictures of an Amtrak train with a red backdrop like you can get here. Some pretty good ones I suppose but it's the one on the bridge I really want.
Yea it's on there but the light is wrong so they're not too good. Years of trying to get this but haven't yet.
Need to mention that some of these engines are so dirty that even if it comes together doesn't mean it will be good.
I just have to go and sit and wait and hope for things to come together. And that means keeping the fly rod in da car.
Oh my!

The Holly Group And Surronding Area Of Hovenweep
Looking at these pictures while on the road they did not appear to be very good and I'm not saying these are in any way like that. Viewing them on my old laptop is not the same as the big screen here at home but there are several here that have some merit.
What these accomplish in a way is give an idea of what it's like out here if you have never visited. You will see a ruin situated beneath a rock where years of fires have made what was the ceiling black. It doesn't take that much imagination to imagine a fire and the Indians around it.
On another under a rock outcropping you can see too the common hand print seen in many places.
We wonder how often these rock formations actually change or shift. To be there when a massive chunk falls to a canyon floor would be next to amazing I am sure.
What can be said is that if you look closely one of the massive boulders a ruin was built on did shift. So in 800 years a geological shift did happen.
I probably like the 4th one the best just because of soot on what was the ceiling. They're all kind of cool in a way and continue to reinforce to me that all of us are nothing more than piss ants in time.
Hope you enjoy these and if you can go see this area of the United States.
To answer the comment about access-most of these are and other places as well are roped off severely. It was hard to see this ruin as I remember it. I did cross ropes to take pictures at times but not very far. Chaco Canyon's accessibility changed so much.
Thanks for bringing this up RZ.

UPDATE
Because of a comment I have added three pictures at the end. I need to remember what I said - that pictures here are not intended to always be the best but serve also to illustrate or do whatever. In this case because of vehicles or people in them these weren't considered and that was a mistake because this is a cool ruin. These also show the shift better too.To answer the comment about access-most of these are and other places as well are roped off severely. It was hard to see this ruin as I remember it. Critters Seen Today 4/19
Once again there's not much here except they are from today. Missed the fox and the coyote jumping in the video.
Have never taken pictures of the statues from this angle and I find this interesting and will be paying attention to different light conditions.
The marmots are just that - they don't change much.
The moose are from last Friday. I want some good pictures of a moose. I do not have any.

Valley of the Gods
It's hard not to take a decent picture here. Take a close look at the 4th and 5th.The 6th and 7th are next to the ruin itself.

Shots From Last Weekend
Again nothing very special here. The flowers were in a greenhouse at a friends house. Mary knows who that might be. The light was not too good but after seeing white for months color of any kind is nice. I like the red and yellow flower but maybe the frogs having tea is the better. They were outside and the figurine was maybe seven inches wide. Sometimes closeups like this can be a lot of fun too.
There are a few more of Hovenweep I want to put up even though there's been a bunch of them. These will show something different.
Oh my I almost forgot these two guys who live at the same place the froggys do.
The guy above reminds me of some people I know. The ones who don't know how to smile.
